Young residents of Pouch Cove will have
improved access to playground equipment, with the help of a
$15,000 grant provided through the Provincial Governments 2010
Capital Grant Program.
"This investment in the purchase and
installation of equipment at the Kiddies Park playground is
designed to increase opportunities for area youth to engage in
physical activity," said the Honourable Terry French, Minister
of Tourism, Culture and Recreation. "Providing a safe
environment in which young people can play will no doubt
encourage them to participate in healthy outdoor activities on a
more regular basis."
Pouch Cove is among more than 40
municipalities, recreation commissions, and community-based
organizations throughout the province which have received
funding to upgrade their recreation and sport infrastructure
through these latest Capital Grant Program investments.
"I am so pleased for the Lions Club and
residents of Pouch Cove, particularly the children, who will be
able to enjoy this new playground equipment with their
families," said Cape St. Francis MHA Kevin Parsons. "It is
important that our youth become accustomed to practising active,
healthy behaviour at an early age, so that it becomes a natural
part of their everyday lives."
