Provided to Cultural Sector
An additional $19,981 in project support has been provided to
organizations and individuals within Newfoundland and Labrador�s
cultural sector, through the Provincial Government�s 2010
Cultural Economic Development Program (CEDP).
"Our cultural sector continues to grow in leaps and bounds,"
said the Honourable Terry French, Minister of Tourism, Culture
and Recreation. "As a government, we continue to support the
individuals and organizations that work to create, preserve,
promote and celebrate our unique and diverse culture. The latest
investment supports activities focused in the arts, film and
literary sectors."
In addition to CEDP funding previously announced for the
cultural sector, recent investments include:
The Labrador Creative Arts Festival � $8,000 to
offset costs associated with its 35th annual
festival, held in Happy Valley-Goose Bay November 17-23.
Mamu Tshishkutamashutau � $6,000
to assist with the presentation of
the 6th Kamataukatshiut Festival in
the Innu communities of Sheshatshiu and Natuashish,
scheduled to take place in January/February 2011.
Inanna Publications and Education Inc. � $3,400
to help cover the costs of an author tour to promote
Maura Hanrahan�s new novel, Sheilagh�s Brush, in
Darmouth, Fredericton, Ottawa, and Toronto, from
November 26 to December 9.
Aiden Flynn (Actor/Producer) � $1,573 to offset
costs associated with attending a Shakespeare Globe
Centre of Canada event, which took place in Toronto on
November 15. Mr. Flynn made a short presentation on the
New World Theatre Project.
Colette Urban (Performance Artist) � $1,008 to
help enable the artist to attend the film festival,
Temps D'Images Film Award for Films on Art, in Lisbon,
Portugal, November 11-14. A documentary film about her
work, Pretend Not to See Me, was screened as
well. Ms. Urban gave a performance as an introduction to
the film.
Budget 2010: The Right Investments � For Our Children and
Our Future provides over $2.7 million through the CEDP to
support arts, cultural and heritage initiatives throughout the
province, with $1.5 million earmarked for the arts and culture
sectors and over $1.2 million provided to the heritage sector.
CEDP applications are considered based on the strength of the
business plans, vision, and potential development within the
sector.
