Recreation trails in the Fermeuse and Renews areas
will see improvements in the near future, thanks in part to a $13,250
investment provided to the Fermeuse Trail Committee through the
Provincial Governments 2010 Capital Grant Program.
"This trail provides a safe environment for residents
and visitors, young and older alike, to enjoy outdoor activities such as
walking and biking, and cross-country skiing," said the Honourable Terry
French, Minister of Tourism, Culture and Recreation. "As a government,
we are pleased to support the efforts of local groups who work hard to
provide the means by which residents can be more physically active
year-round."
The Fermeuse Trail Committee is among more than 40
recreation committees, municipalities, and community-based organizations
throughout the province which have received funding to upgrade their
recreation and sport infrastructure through these latest Capital Grant
Program investments.
"Access to recreation is a vital part of governments
healthy living initiatives," said Ferryland MHA Keith Hutchings. "The
Fermeuse Trail Committee has done exceptional work in developing the
trail system, and this grant will allow completion of the trail work. I
want to recognize the advocacy efforts of the committee in working with
me to access this important funding initiative for our rural
communities."

Governments recreation and sport strategy, Active, Healthy
Newfoundland and Labrador (2007), more than $70 million in new
funding has been committed for recreation and sport infrastructure and
