There will be more opportunities to play basketball in
the Town of Paradise, thanks in part to a $15,000 investment provided
through the Provincial Governments 2010 Capital Grant Program.
"This funding is being used to assist with the
purchase and installation of two ceiling-mounted and four wall-mounted
basketball nets at the Rotary Paradise Youth and Community Centre," said
the Honourable Terry French, Minister of Tourism, Culture and
Recreation. "The addition of these basketball systems will provide
residents with further opportunities to take part in structured and
recreational activities which contribute to a healthier lifestyle."
The Town of Paradise is among more than 40
municipalities, recreation commissions, and community-based
organizations throughout the province which have received funding to
upgrade their recreation and sport infrastructure through these latest
Capital Grant Program investments.
"This investment is a further demonstration of the
Provincial Governments continued commitment to supporting improvements
to recreational infrastructure," said Topsail MHA Paul Davis. "An active
lifestyle is a significant contributor to overall good health and
well-being, and this new equipment will assist in encouraging our
youths involvement in this great sport and provide them with hours of
enjoyment."

"It's great to see the continued investment by our
government in sports and recreation in Paradise," said Steve Kent, MHA
for Mount Pearl North. "Living an active and healthy lifestyle is
imperative to maintaining good health, and this equipment will assist
the residents of Paradise in this regard."
Budget 2010: The Right Investments For Our
Children and Our Future provides an additional $300,000 to the
Capital Grant Program, bringing the total annual investment in this
program to $1.3 million. Since the introduction of the Provincial
Governments recreation and sport strategy, Active, Healthy
Newfoundland and Labrador (2007), more than $70 million in new
funding has been committed for recreation and sport infrastructure and
programming.
