The Town of Rocky Harbour was "rocking" this past
weekend as the community played host to the 2010 Music Association of
Newfoundland and Labrador (MusicNL) Conference and Awards Gala.
"The amount of musical talent in Newfoundland and
Labrador, both established and emerging, is remarkable — and I
congratulate all of this year's honourees," said the Honourable Terry
French, Minister of Tourism, Culture and Recreation. "The province's
music sector is an important contributor to our cultural industries and
the Provincial Government is proud to support MusicNL as it continues to
play a significant role in the further development of our cultural
economy."
Budget 2010: The Right Investments - For Our
Children and Our Future provides $345,000 in operational and program
support to Music NL, an increase of $20,000 over last year, through the
Cultural Economic Development Program (CEDP).
"This year's conference and awards gala provided the
public with an opportunity to get a peek at some of our most promising
rising stars," said Janeatt Hogan, President of the Board of MusicNL. "MusicNL
would like to thank the Provincial Government for its continued support
of this province's music industry. For more than five years, it has
upheld its commitment to the cultural blueprint,
Creative
Newfoundland and Labrador
, creating a more vibrant and supportive
environment for our artists to create, promote and succeed."
