The Association of Cultural Industries (ACI), an
organization which fosters the growth and development of the province's
cultural resources and industries, has received $40,000 in support
through the Provincial Government's Cultural Economic Development
Program (CEDP).
The investment represents a $10,000 increase over 2009
funding levels.
"The Association of Cultural Industries plays an
important role in maintaining our province's vibrant cultural sector,"
said the Honourable Terry French, Minister of Tourism, Culture and
Recreation. "It serves as a unified voice for provincial artists and
cultural workers; helps identify and address issues facing the industry,
and ultimately helps foster the growth and development of our cultural
resources and industries."
George Murray, executive director of ACI, welcomed the
increased support.
"ACI applauds the Provincial Government's continued
investment in the culture sector in Newfoundland and Labrador," said Mr.
Murray. "We also welcome this significant support that allows us to
continue to represent our cultural workers and organizations at national
and provincial policy tables, and to build on our work as arts advocates
and industry communicators."
ACI represents a province-wide membership of
professionals from all areas of the cultural sector. Through the
development of working contacts and partnerships, ACI acts as a conduit
for information and communications relating to the cultural arts
community and for initiating necessary research efforts.
The 2010 CEDP program is providing about $1.2 million
to the professional arts sector and $1.27 million to the heritage
sector, for a total of almost $2.5 million.
CEDP applications are considered based on the strength of the business
plans, vision and potential for development within the sector. For more
