Film Producers
Association of Newfoundland Benefit From Cultural Investment
The Film Producers Association of
Newfoundland (PAN) has received $60,000 in project support through the
province's Cultural Economic Development Program (CEDP) to assist with
its national and international marketing programs for 2010-11.
"This funding demonstrates the Provincial
Government's commitment to develop cultural industries across
Newfoundland and Labrador and keep our creative talent in the province,"
said the Honourable Terry French, Minister of Tourism, Culture and
Recreation. "As a government, we are proud to support the province's
film industry, and the professional people who work both in front of the
cameras and behind the scenes."
This funding is directed to PAN's ongoing
national and international market development strategy, which provides
Newfoundland and Labrador film producers with increased marketing
ability.
"In 2005 the Film Producers Association
of Newfoundland shifted its focus towards a marketing specific mandate,"
said Mary Sexton, President, PAN. "Since that time the Government of
Newfoundland and Labrador, primarily through the CEDP program, has been
one of our most supportive partners. This support has allowed the
organization to assist producers in the province in the creation and
distribution of millions of dollars worth of indigenous film and
television projects throughout the world, growing our film industry into
one of the most vibrant and dynamic in the country."
The 2010 CEDP is providing $1.27 million
for operational and project support to the heritage sector, and
approximately $1.2 million to the professional arts sector, for a total
of almost $2.5 million.
CEDP projects are selected based on the
strength of the business plans, vision and potential for development
within the sector. For more information on the CEDP program and
