Association of Heritage Industries Benefits from Provincial Investment

The Association of Heritage Industries (AHI) has received $45,000 in operational support through the Provincial Government's Cultural Economic Development Program (CEDP). Funding will be used to assist with activities outlined in AHI's strategic plan, including heritage policy initiatives, human resource development, and collaborative projects with the heritage community to promote awareness of heritage and best practices in heritage resource management.

"The Provincial Government is committed to supporting the dedicated people who preserve and promote the rich cultural history of Newfoundland and Labardor," said the Honourable Terry French, Minister of Tourism, Culture and Recreation. "An investment in our heritage is an investment in our past, present and future."

"Hundreds of people scattered in nearly every community in the province are working through their volunteer heritage organizations to preserve aspects of their history and heritage," said David Bradley, AHI Chair. "The Association of Heritage Industries' job is to ensure that governments understand the value of their work and to encourage the implementation of policies that support their efforts."

Established in 2000, AHI is an umbrella organization of the province's heritage groups. It brings the heritage community together to speak with a strong voice on cultural policy issues. Collectively, AHI represents more that 2,000 organizations, institutions and individuals involved in heritage work in Newfoundland and Labrador. For further information, visit: www.ahinl.ca/

The 2010 CEDP is providing $1.27 million for operational and project support to the heritage sector, and approximately $1.2 million to the professional arts sector, for a total of almost $2.5 million.

CEDP projects are selected based on the strength of the business plans, vision and potential for development within the sector. For more information on the CEDP program and application guidelines, visit: www.tcr.gov.nl.ca/tcr/heritage/cedp/index.html
