Grand Falls-Windsor-Green Bay South Region Benefits from Heritage Investments

Heritage organizations in the Grand Falls-Windsor-Green Bay South region have received a total of $10,530 in operational and project support funding through the Cultural Economic Development Program (CEPD).

"The Provincial Government recognizes the importance of community-based organizations and the local residents who maintain and promote our vast array of heritage assets," said the Honourable Terry French, Minister of Tourism, Culture and Recreation. "An investment in our heritage is an investment in preserving and promoting the distinctive aspects of our history and culture which define us as a people."

Investments in Grand Falls-Windsor-Green Bay South region are as follows:

  • Grand Falls-Windsor Heritage Society — $8,340 in total support, which includes $5,070 to preserve and make accessible the Harmsworth photo album and legacy ledger, which contains historical information and photographs relevant to paper mill operations in Grand Falls-Windsor, and an additional $3,270 to support the organization's day-to-day operations;
  • Pilley's Island Heritage Society — $1,140 in operational support; and,
  • Exploits Valley Heritage Council — $1,050 in operational support.

"Remembering our roots is important to the societal fabric of Newfoundland and Labrador," said Grand Falls-Windsor-Green Bay South MHA Ray Hunter. "These heritage organizations do great work in preserving our past and sharing it with younger generations and those who are intrigued by our unique culture."

Budget 2010: The Right Investments — For Our Children and Our Future provides $1.27 million for operational and project support to the heritage sector, and about $1.2 million to the professional arts sector, for a total of almost $2.5 million.
