Carbonear-Harbour Grace Heritage Groups
Receive over $12,000 to Support Operations

More than $12,000 in operating support has been provided to heritage organizations in the Carbonear-Harbour Grace region through the province's Cultural Economic Development Program.

"The Provincial Government supports the efforts of community-based heritage organizations, which are integral to the preservation and interpretation of our heritage for residents and visitors alike," said the Honourable Terry French, Minister of Tourism, Culture and Recreation. "This is only possible through the co-operative efforts of local individuals, and I commend their dedication to maintaining our cultural heritage as an important legacy to be enjoyed by present and future generations."

Budget 2010 investments in the region are as follows:

  • Baccalieu Trail Heritage Corporation — $8,010;
  • Conception Bay Museum — $3,080; and,
  • Carbonear Heritage Society — $1,000.

"I am pleased that our government is recognizing and supporting the important work of these heritage organizations in the Carbonear-Harbour Grace area," said the Honourable Jerome Kennedy, Carbonear-Harbour Grace MHA. "Organizations like these have an important role to play in protecting and promoting our local history and culture. The Provincial Government is once again making strategic investments to ensure our cultural heritage can be enjoyed for years to come."

The 2010 Cultural Economic Development Program (CEDP) is providing $1.27 million for operational and project support to the heritage sector, and about $1.2 million to the professional arts sector, for a total of almost $2.5 million.

CEDP applications are considered based on the strength of the business plans, vision and potential for development within the sector. For more information on the CEDP program for heritage organizations, and application guidelines, visit: www.tcr.gov.nl.ca/tcr/heritage/cedp/index.html.
