June 24, 2010Funding Provided for Carbonear Pool Storage Area
The Carbonear Regional Recreation Complex will receive $15,000
through the Community Capital Grant Program to help build a detached
storage area adjacent to the facility to house swimming pool maintenance
equipment and supplies.
"We recognize that a well-utilized community pool requires regular
maintenance and a secure space in which to store cleaning products and
equipment," said the Honourable Terry French, Minister of Tourism,
Culture and Recreation. "This new storage area will provide a safer
environment for Carbonear and area residents who avail of swimming
programs at the recreation complex, and free up space within the
facility to store equipment used by other organizations."
Carbonear is among more than 30 communities throughout the province
which will receive funding to purchase equipment and upgrade their
recreation and sport infrastructure through the most recent allocation
of $450,900 through the Community Capital Grant Program.
"Helping residents throughout the province maintain their health and
wellness is a major priority for our government and our funding
announcement is proof of that commitment," said the Honourable Jerome
Kennedy, Carbonear-Harbour Grace MHA. "Physical fitness is an important
part of a healthy lifestyle, and ensuring the community swimming pool is
appropriately maintained will allow area residents to continue to use
this facility for exercise and recreation."
The Community Capital Grant Program is an application-based program
that provides funding of up to $15,000 to assist municipalities and
recreation commissions to improve their recreation and sports
infrastructure.
Budget 2010: The Right Investments mdash; For Our Children and Our
Future provides an additional $300,000 to the Community Capital
Grant Program, bringing the total annual investment in this program to
$1.3 million. Since the introduction of the Provincial Government's
recreation and sport strategy, Active, Healthy Newfoundland and
Labrador (2007), more than $62.4 million in new funding has been
committed for recreation and sport infrastructure and equipment.
