Province Invests $66,000 in Bonavista North Heritage
Heritage organizations in the Bonavista North region have received
$66,000 in operational support funding through the
province's Cultural Economic Development Program.
"The Provincial Government is committed to supporting those who work
diligently to preserve and promote the cultural heritage of Newfoundland
and Labrador," said the Honourable Terry French, Minister of Tourism,
Culture and Recreation. "Local individuals, who have a keen interest in
safeguarding the heritage of their communities, are to be commended for
their efforts to present that heritage to residents and visitors to this
province."
Budget 2010 investments in the Bonavista North region are as follows:
Cape Freels Heritage Trust — $64,000;
Banting Historical Trust Inc. —
$1,000; and,
Fisherman's Museum; Musgrave Harbour —
$1,000.
"I am extremely pleased with the financial contribution from our
Provincial Government toward three cultural heritage associations," said
Bonavista North MHA Harry Harding. "Bonavista North has a proud, rich
heritage; and this contribution will help to retain its cultural
identity."
The 2010 Cultural Economic Development Program (CEDP) is providing
$1.27 million for operational and project support to the heritage
sector, and about $1.2 million to the professional arts sector, for a
total of almost $2.5 million.
CEDP applications are considered based on the strength of the
business plans, vision and potential for development within the sector.
