$12,100 in Support of Recreational Infrastructure
The Town of Trinity will receive $12,100 from
the Community Capital Grant Program to aid in both the reconstruction of
a walking trail, and the improvement of its community playground.
"This funding will be used to reconstruct an older
walking trail within the community that has become overgrown, as well as
to replace the community's playground equipment," said the Honourable
Terry French, Minister of Tourism, Culture and Recreation. "These
improvements provide area residents of all ages with increased
opportunities to become physically active on a regular basis in a safe
and well-maintained environment."
Trinity is among more than 30 communities throughout
the province which will receive funding to purchase equipment and
upgrade their recreation and sport infrastructure through the most
recent allocation of $450,900 through the Community Capital Grant
Program.
"I am delighted that our government recognizes the
tremendous benefits associated with providing support to community
recreation infrastructure," said the Honourable Ross Wiseman, MHA for
Trinity North. "This money provides significant enhancements, not only
for residents of Trinity North, but for the thousands of tourists who
visit annually."
The Community Capital Grant Program is an
application-based program that provides grants of up to $15,000 to
assist municipalities and recreation commissions to improve their
recreation and sports infrastructure.
Budget 2010: The Right Investments — For Our
Children and Our Future provides an additional $300,000 to the
Community Capital Grant Program, bringing the total annual investment in
this program to $1.3 million. Since the introduction of the Provincial
Government's recreation and sport strategy, Active, Healthy
Newfoundland and Labrador (2007), more than $62.4 million in new
funding has been committed for recreation and sport infrastructure and
equipment throughout the province.
