Conche Receives $15,000
to Build Community Playground
A new children's playground and boardwalk
will be constructed in Conche on the Northern Peninsula, with the help
of a $15,000 grant provided through the Community Capital Grant Program.
"This funding is being used to develop
the grounds adjacent to Sacred Heart All Grade school in Conche into an
outdoor recreation area, including a walking path around the perimeter,"
said the Honourable Terry French, Minister of Tourism, Culture, and
Recreation. "This investment will help encourage daily activity for all
residents of the community, as well as provide a safe environment for
children to play."
Conche is among more than 30 communities
throughout the province which will receive funding to purchase equipment
and upgrade their recreation and sport infrastructure through the most
recent allocation of $450,900 through the Community Capital Grant
Program.
The Community Capital Recreation Grant
Program is an application-based program that provides funding of up to
$15,000 to assist municipalities and recreation commissions to improve
their recreation and sports infrastructure.
Budget 2010: The Right Investments —
For Our Children and Our Future provides an additional $300,000 to
the Community Capital Grant Program, bringing the total annual
investment in this program to $1.3 million. Since the introduction of
the Provincial Government's recreation and sport strategy, Active,
Healthy Newfoundland and Labrador (2007), more than $62.4 million in new
funding has been committed for recreation and sport infrastructure and
equipment.
