Media Advisory: Media Invited to Preview the Canadian Premiere of Edward
Burtynsky: Oil
Media are invited to attend a preview of
the Canadian Premiere of the exhibition Edward Burtynsky: Oil, Tuesday,
May 11, from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. at The Rooms. The official
exhibition opening and public reception will take place Friday, May 14,
at 7:30 p.m. Shelia Perry, Director of The Rooms Provincial Art Gallery,
will be in attendance and available to the media.
Edward Burtynsky: Oil is an examination of one the most important
subjects of our time by one of the most respected and recognized
contemporary photographers in the world. From 1997 through 2009, Edward
Burtynsky travelled internationally to chronicle the production,
distribution, and use of this critical fuel. In addition to revealing
the rarely seen mechanics of its manufacture, he photographs the effects
of oil on our lives, depicting landscapes altered by its extraction from
the Earth and by the sprawl generated around its use.
