March 31, 2010Province Contributes Over $42,400 to
Bay Bulls Recreational Infrastructure
The Town of Bay Bulls has received $42,430 in funding from the
Provincial Government to provide the community with a newly-upgraded
playground.
The Honourable Terry French, Minister of Tourism, Culture and
Recreation, said the total value of the project is $74,753 with the
balance being provided through the Federal Government and the Town of
Bay Bulls as part of the Recreational Infrastructure Canada (RInC)
Program.
"This investment is just one example of how the Provincial Government
is working to achieve the goals outlined in the provincial recreation
and sport strategy, Active Healthy, Newfoundland and Labrador,"
said Minister French. "This funding will help support the recreational
needs of children and youth in Bay Bulls, and encourage more daily
involvement in physical activity."
"I am delighted with the investment by the Provincial Government that
will see significant enhancement to playground infrastructure in the
Town of Bay Bulls," said Keith Hutchings, MHA for the District of
Ferryland. "The investment is one of many significant upgrades to
regional recreational infrastructure for our youth witnessed over the
past few years."
In addition to the approximately $8.3 million invested through the
RInC program within the past year, Budget 2010 provides an additional
$300,000 to upgrade community recreation and sports infrastructure
through the Community Capital Grants Program.
Since the launch of Active Healthy Newfoundland and Labrador
in 2007, more than $62 million in Provincial Government funding has been
committed to recreational and sport infrastructure.
