Good Governance Week

The Canadian Council of Parliamentary Ombudsman has designated the week of October 18 - 22 as Good Governance Week — a nation-wide celebration of the role of the Ombudsman. In this Province, the Office of the Citizens' Representative undertakes the role of Ombudsman.

Over the course of the week the Office of the Citizens' Representative has organized a number of events, including a networking event for community-based agencies, and for departmental designates who assist the Office in its work.

Also, a part of the celebration is an essay-writing contest which solicited submissions from social studies students in grade six on the topic of Good Governance. Background materials were sent to schools in early September.

Among the submissions received, Ms. Kayla Warren of Legallais Memorial in Isle aux Morts was judged the winner.

The Citizens' Representative, Barry Fleming, invites all citizens to visit his office's website at www.citizensrep.nl.ca to learn more about the Office, and to read Kayla's winning essay.
