Public Advisory: Motorists Warned to be Aware of Caribou in St. Anthony
Area
The Departments of Natural Resources and
Environment and Conservation are issuing a warning to travellers in the
area between St. Anthony Airport and Eddies Cove (Route 430) on the
Northern Peninsula.
Wildlife officials have indicated there
are significant numbers of caribou in this area and the potential for
encounters with motor vehicles is of concern. Officials advise there
have been several vehicle-caribou collisions in recent weeks and are
asking motorists to be extra vigilant, particularly at night, when
travelling along this stretch of highway.
The distribution of the herd may change.
Until that time motorists are encouraged to exercise caution when
travelling between St. Anthony Airport and Eddies Cove.
