Public Advisory: Intense Weather System Prompts
Safety Reminder for Residents
As rainfall continues to impact parts of the
province, Fire and Emergency Services Newfoundland and
Labrador (FES-NL) is again urging residents to take all
necessary precautions to ensure their personal safety. Many
communities are coping well with higher than normal rainfall
amounts and increased wind speeds. However, FES-NL advises there
remains a need to be prepared should the situation change.
Residents are advised to take such steps as
having an emergency kit ready with the necessary supplies,
making contact with seniors and those who are vulnerable, and
never taking unnecessary risks like venturing close to
shorelines or dangerous areas.
Currently, there is concern for the
possibility of a storm surge in the area of Placentia Bay
throughout the next 24 to 48 hours. Residents are urged to keep
away from the shoreline and keep municipal officials apprised of
any changes in the condition of roads or properties.
Residents are reminded to keep a close watch
on the local forecasts for any possible changes as this system
continues. A list of safety tips can be found in the
backgrounder below.
