Fire Department Receives Equipment Funding
The Provincial Government is
providing $8,967 in funding to a fire department in the District
of Grand Falls-Windsor - Green Bay South. The Honourable Kevin
O’Brien, Minister of Municipal Affairs and Minister Responsible
for Fire and Emergency Services, today announced funding for
Robert’s Arm Fire Department to assist in acquiring new bunker
suits and air cylinders.
“Fire departments and
municipalities across Newfoundland and Labrador work for the
betterment and protection of our residents,” said Minister
O’Brien. “This funding is the latest announcement in our
government’s ongoing effort to strengthen and enhance fire and
emergency services throughout the province, which, as minister,
continues to be one of my top priorities.”
The funding, which provides for
firefighting equipment with a focus on personal protection, is
administered through Fire and Emergency Services – Newfoundland
and Labrador.
“I am very pleased for the
wonderful volunteers of the Robert's Arm Fire Department,” said
Ray Hunter, MHA for Grand Falls-Windsor - Green Bay South.
“These brave individuals provide a vital service for their
neighbours and community, so it is very important that we
consider and ensure their safety as well.”
Budget 2010: The Right
Investments – For Our Children and Our Future doubled the
investment in firefighting equipment from $500,000 to $1
million, while also increasing expenditures on firefighting
vehicles to a total of $2.5 million. Funding for Robert’s Arm
Fire Department will be shared between the Provincial Government
and the municipal council under the 90/10 cost-shared ratio
established through the Municipal Capital Works Program, for a
total project cost over $10,000.
