Equipment Funding Supports Northern Peninsula Volunteers
Three fire departments on the Northern
Peninsula will benefit from $47,602 in Provincial Government funding to
help purchase new fire fighting equipment. The Honourable Kevin OBrien,
Minister of Municipal Affairs and Minister Responsible for Fire and
Emergency Services, today announced funding for Main Brook and Raleigh
Fire Departments, in addition to NorPen Regional Fire Service in the
Straits.
Fire fighters tackle some of the most
challenging emergencies experienced in Newfoundland and Labrador, said
Minister OBrien. These volunteers are dedicated to the roles they play
in their communities. Our government is just as committed to providing
our volunteers with high quality training and assistance in acquiring
the equipment they need to provide valuable protection to our
residents.
The funding, which helps in purchasing a
portable pump, bunker suits, and self-contained breathing apparatus, is
administered by Fire and Emergency Services Newfoundland and Labrador.
Dependable and effective personal
protection gives fire fighters the capacity to provide an essential life
saving service to residents, Minister OBrien added. It is investments
such as this which demonstrates the priority the Provincial Government
places on the safety and protection of Newfoundlanders and Labradorians
and our many volunteers.
Budget 2010: The Right Investments
For Our Children and Our Future doubled the investment in fire
fighting equipment from $500,000 to $1 million, while also increasing
