Baine Harbour Fire
Department Receives Over $23,000 in Funding
A Provincial Government investment of
$23,075 will help the Baine Harbour Fire Department acquire new fire
fighting equipment. The Honourable Kevin OBrien, Minister of Municipal
Affairs and Minister Responsible for Fire and Emergency Services,
announced the funding today.
The importance of the role fire fighters
fulfill in our towns and communities cannot be overstated, said
Minister OBrien. Our government continues our commitment to a
dedicated workforce through guidance, increased funding, and expert
training through our Fire and Emergency Services Training School. These
monies help to provide members with the tools needed to perform a
variety of functions in the interest of public safety.
The funding, which will provide for a
portable pump and self-contained breathing apparatus, is administered by
Fire and Emergency Services Newfoundland and Labrador.
This increased capacity for fire and
emergency services is great news for Baine Harbour and the surrounding
communities, said Clyde Jackman, MHA for Burin-Placentia West.
Ensuring that the brave women and men of our fire departments have the
necessary resources to stay safe and keep our communities safe is
essential. This investment is a great example of our governments
commitment to keeping the people of the province safe.
Budget 2010: The Right Investments
For Our Children and Our Future doubled the investment in fire
fighting equipment from $500,000 to $1 million, while also increasing
expenditures on fire fighting vehicles to a total of $2.5 million.
Funding will be shared between the Provincial Government and Baine
Harbour under the 90/10 cost-shared ratio established through the
Municipal Capital Works Program, for a project total of almost $27,000.
