"The fire service in our province is among the first to respond in times of emergency and their continued personal protection is an important consideration for our government," said Minister O�Brien. "This funding, which will help in acquiring self-contained breathing apparatus, helmets, boots and bunker suits, will provide these departments with the equipment needed to train for emergency situations which may arise in our communities throughout Newfoundland and Labrador. Training, planning, and protection are all important components of the emergency services provided in the province."

Sandy Collins, MHA for Terra Nova, said today�s funding announcement encourages the commitment of the many members of the fire service. "These men and women provide a vital service to our communities," said Mr. Collins.　 "It is important that we ensure they are equipped with the appropriate tools to carry out their duties in a safe and effective manner, and this funding does exactly that."
