Embree Fire Department
Receives Over $30,000 in Funding
The Provincial Government is providing $30,991 in
funding for a fire department in Lewisporte district. The Honourable
Kevin O�Brien, Minister of Municipal Affairs and Minister Responsible
for Fire and Emergency Services, today announced funding for the Embree
Fire Department for the purchase of personal protective equipment.
"We are proud to support the men and women who have
the strength and courage to protect our communities," said Minister
O�Brien. "Fire fighters provide an indispensable service to the areas
they serve and the Provincial Government remains committed to their
success."
The funding, which provides for new bunker suits, air cylinders and
self-contained breathing apparatus, is administered through Fire and
Emergency Services � Newfoundland and Labrador.
"Volunteer fire fighters carry out a crucial role in
our communities," said Wade Verge, MHA for Lewisporte. "I am very
pleased that the Embree Fire Department is receiving the necessary
funding to enable them to upgrade their equipment needs."
Budget 2010: The Right Investments � For Our
Children and Our Future doubled the investment in fire fighting
equipment from $500,000 to $1 million, while also increasing
expenditures on fire fighting vehicles to a total of $2.5 million.
Funding for Lewisporte district will be shared between the Provincial
Government and the community of Embree under the 90/10 cost-shared ratio
established through the Municipal Capital Works Program, for a total
project cost of over $36,000.
