The Deer Lake Fire Department will benefit from $13,473 in Provincial Government funding to help purchase new fire fighting equipment. The Honourable Kevin OBrien, Minister of Municipal Affairs and Minister Responsible for Fire and Emergency Services, today announced the funding, which will assist in acquiring new bunker suits and self-contained breathing apparatus.

"Through increased investments and expanded training opportunities, our government is helping to provide the fire service with the tools needed to safeguard residents in the event of an emergency," said Minister OBrien. "We recognize the responsibility municipalities have in providing fire protection for residents and the dedication of volunteers in answering the call for their communities. Our government believes this equipment will be a positive addition to the fire service."

The funding, which is focused on providing personal protective equipment for firefighters, is administered by Fire and Emergency Services Newfoundland and Labrador.

"This investment certainly reinforces our governments commitment to a dedicated volunteer workforce," said Darryl Kelly, MHA for Humber Valley. "This new equipment will help to enhance the safety of these individuals, while they serve to protect others. This helps ensure the Deer Lake Volunteer Fire Department's dedicated volunteers have the necessary equipment to respond when needed."
