Fire Protection Equipment Funding Supports
Trinity North Volunteers
Three fire departments in Trinity North will
benefit from a Provincial Government investment of $35,415 for enhanced
fire fighter protection. The Honourable Kevin O'Brien, Minister of
Municipal Affairs and Minister Responsible for Fire and Emergency
Services, announced the funding today for George Brook's-Milton, Port
Rexton, and Trinity fire departments for personal protective equipment.
"Our province's volunteer fire service
encounters situations most of us could never imagine," said Minister
O'Brien. "This government values the commitment and dedication of our
fire fighters and, through strong municipal partnerships, is intent on
ensuring they are able to protect themselves, as well as their
communities, when they tackle the many challenges that come their way."
The funding, which will help to purchase new
bunker suits and self-contained breathing apparatus for these
departments, is administered through Fire and Emergency Services —
Newfoundland and Labrador.
"Volunteer fire departments provide a critical
service to our communities," said the Honourable Ross Wiseman, Minister
of Business and MHA for Trinity North. "I am delighted that our
government recognizes the tremendous work that they do by providing the
necessary equipment to protect the men and women who risk their lives to
protect others and their property."
Budget 2010:
The Right Investments — For
Our Children and Our Future
doubled the investment in fire fighting
equipment from $500,000 to $1 million, while also increasing
expenditures on fire fighting vehicles to a total of $2.5 million.
Funding for Trinity North will be shared between the Provincial
Government and the respective municipalities under the 90/10 cost shared
ratio established through the Municipal Capital Works Program, for a
total project cost of over $41,000.
