Bay of Islands Fire Departments Receive Equipment
Funding
The Provincial Government is providing $40,128 in funding for three
fire departments in the Bay of Islands district. The Honourable Kevin
O'Brien, Minister of Municipal Affairs and Minister Responsible for Fire
and Emergency Services, today announced funding for Irishtown-Summerside,
McIvers and Mount Moriah departments.
"Safety is of the utmost importance for our government and it brings
me great pleasure to be able to assist these departments to ensure the
protection of their members," said Minister O'Brien. "We continue our
focus on personal protective equipment. This funding will help in
acquiring bunker suits, protective hoods and self-contained breathing
apparatus to make certain fire fighters can match high quality training
with the latest in protective equipment."
Terry Loder, MHA for the Bay of Islands, said today's announcement will
also help protect the communities served by these fire departments.
"I am very proud to support these fine women and men in the fire
service," said Mr. Loder. "They are the first responders to all types of
emergencies whether it is fires, vehicle accidents or medical
emergencies. This equipment will make their jobs much safer."
Budget 2010:
