Towns Granted Approval to Proceed with Municipal Engineering Design Work

To reduce the time it takes to move municipal infrastructure projects to the construction stage, the Department of Municipal Affairs has granted approval to 22 municipalities and two local service districts to proceed with engineering design work. Projects have been selected for engineering design work in anticipation that they will receive funding approval.

"The engineering design initiative will provide municipalities the opportunity to begin preparatory work on infrastructure projects, and gather important information on cost and design," said the Honourable Dianne Whalen, Minister of Municipal Affairs. "This effort will provide the municipality and department with a more accurate evaluation and a clearer picture related to final costs, and is an effort to simplify the approval process. Work will include project design, preparation of tender documents and submission to the regulatory agencies for review, and will provide the department and town with an opportunity to address any design issues prior to projects receiving final funding approval."
