A municipal capital works investment
of approximately $120,300 will support upgrades to
components of the sewage lift station in the Town of
Fleur de Lys.
"This investment supports general
maintenance of the sewage lift station and will secure
water and sewer services for residents," said the
Honourable Tom Hedderson, Minister of Municipal Affairs
(Acting). "Efficient, secure municipal services are
essential to the health and well-being of communities,
and we are pleased to provide funding support and ensure
that residents and visitors have access to modern,
reliable services."
Funding will support repairs to the
sewage lift station and replace parts which have
exceeded their lifecycle. Repairs will be completed
during spring 2010.
"I am absolutely delighted to see
small rural communities such as Fleur de Lys take
advantage of the 90/10 funding ratio provided by
government," said Kevin Pollard, MHA for Baie Verte-Springdale.
"This enhances the town's ability to access much needed
funds that are required to invest in aging
infrastructure such as sewage lift stations. I am
confident that the residents of Fleur de Lys will be
extremely pleased with the town's and government's
commitment to safe, efficient, and reliable municipal
services that will enhance the quality of life for
everyone."
In Budget 2009: Building on Our
Strong Foundation, the Provincial Government made an
unprecedented multi-year commitment of a 69 per cent
increase in municipal capital works funding for fiscal
years 2008-09, 2009-10 and 2010-11. This commitment
increased the capital budget by $34.4 million annually,
bringing the total annual Provincial Government
commitment to $84.3 million.
The Provincial Government's
infrastructure strategy is valued at more than $4
billion over the next several years.
