Commissioner of RNC Public Complaints Commission Reappointed

The Honourable Felix Collins, Minister of Justice and Attorney General, today announced the reappointment of John Rorke as the Commissioner of the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary (RNC) Public Complaints Commission.

"I am extremely pleased that Mr. Rorke will be returning to his role as Commissioner of the RNC Public Complaints Commission," said Minister Collins. "The commission serves a vital role in our province and provides the general public an important venue to report complaints about the conduct of officers. Mr. Rorke's past experience on the commission, as well as his extensive legal background, will no doubt enhance the work of this organization."

The RNC Public Complaints Commission is an independent review authority established to oversee and investigate complaints from the public concerning members of the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary and, when appropriate, conducts public hearings with respect to particular complaints.

Mr. Rorke served as commissioner from 2008 to 2009, before being appointed interim Child and Youth Advocate. The reappointment of Mr. Rorke to the RNC Complaints Commission is effective immediately.
