Investment Gives Jolt to Company's
International Marketing Efforts
Local coffee manufacturer Jumping Bean Coffee
is giving a boost to the marketing of its eco-friendly products with
$25,000 from the Provincial Government. The company's expanded marketing
campaign will include improvements to its branding and targeting of
national and international distributors.
"Building a brand that captures the uniqueness
of your product and initiating relationships with national and
international distributors are fundamental in today's business climate,"
said the Honourable Shawn Skinner, Minister of Innovation, Trade and
Rural Development. "These are great steps for Jumping Bean Coffee to
make. Connecting with large distributors holds tremendous opportunities
for the company and has the potential to lead to spin-off benefits for
other local businesses."
As part of its marketing strategy, Jumping
Bean Coffee will modify its packaging to include biodegradable film for
its coffee beans. It will also display its products at major industry
events and hold live demonstrations to food and beverage buyers.
"Jumping Bean has implemented a unique
processing method that is the first in the industry to dramatically
reduce CO2 emissions," said Jeff Ledrew, Owner, Jumping Bean Coffee.
"Our company is both environmentally and socially responsible. By
employing new marketing initiatives geared toward strengthening the
company's brand we are seeking to grow our export capacity in national
and international markets."
Established in April 2005, Jumping Bean Coffee
brews several lines of premium coffee that it sells locally and in
national markets. In addition to brewing coffee, it also has retail
operations in Paradise, downtown St. John's, and in Mile One Centre.
This funding builds on a $125,000 investment
the Provincial Government made in Jumping Bean Coffee in 2008 to expand
its line of products to include eco-friendly coffee roasting.
"Supporting local entrepreneurs in their quest
to diversify their product line and better satisfy market demands is a
key objective of the Provincial Government's business development
agenda," said Minister Skinner. "There is rising demand for eco-friendly
products. I am pleased to be able to commit our support to initiatives
that capitalize on new market opportunities."
This initiative was funded through the
Business and Market Development Program, which, through Budget 2010:
The Right Investments — For Our Children and Our Future
, has $1
million available for investment. Administered by the Department of
Innovation, Trade and Rural Development, the program provides new
entrepreneurs and expanding small businesses with matching funding to
help them acquire the necessary expertise to pursue new business ideas
and markets.
