Government House Leader Expresses Satisfaction with Productive Spring Session

The Honourable Joan Burke, Government House Leader, today expressed her satisfaction with the spring sitting of the House of Assembly, with the passing of 31 pieces of legislation over 43 days. Key bills include the Children and Youth Care and Protection Act, Human Rights Act, and Health and Protection of Animals.

"Significant pieces of legislation were passed this session that will certainly provide direct benefits to the people of Newfoundland and Labrador," said Minister Burke. "This government continues to listen to the people of our province and has introduced and updated legislation that reflects the current needs of Newfoundlanders and Labradorians. Building on the focus of Budget 2010: The Right Investments – For Our Children and Our Future, the Children and Youth Care and Protection Act will further enhance the protection of our province's most valuable resource, our youth.

"This was a long session that saw a tremendous amount of work accomplished, and I would like to acknowledge all members of the House of Assembly for their participation and valued contribution in this session's debate."
