Englee Company Faces
OHS Charges in Provincial Court
The Department of Government Services
announced today that an Englee company has been charged with five
violations of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and
regulations. The charges arose from inspections which occurred at a
boatbuilding facility in Englee between July 2008 and January 2009.
Sealand Enterprises Limited is alleged to
have violated occupational health and safety legislation requiring
sufficient ventilation in the facility, the wearing of appropriate
respiratory equipment, and the installation of effective washing
facilities. The company has also been charged with violating two stop
work orders regarding working without ventilation and also using an
overhead crane without appropriate inspection.
The first appearance for the company was
April 26, 2010, at Provincial Court in St. Anthony, and the second
appearance is scheduled for today (Monday, July 5).
The charges are the result of an
investigation by the Occupational Health and Safety Branch.
