Media Advisory: Fisheries Safety Video to be Launched at Marine Institute

Fishing industry partners will hold a news conference to officially launch and discuss the fisheries safety video Getting Back Home. The video has been produced in partnership with the Department of Fisheries and Aquaculture, the Workplace Health, Safety and Compensation Commission (WHSCC), the Canadian Centre for Fisheries Innovation (CCFI) and the Professional Fish Harvesters Certification Board. The Fisheries and the Marine Institute of Memorial University produced the video in conjunction with Distance Education and Learning Technologies.

The Honourable Clyde Jackman, Minister of Fisheries and Aquaculture; Leslie Galway, CEO of the WHSCC; Bill Broderick, Inshore Director of the Fish, Food and Allied Workers; Robert Verge, Managing Director of CCFI; and, Glen Blackwood, Executive Director of the Fisheries and Marine Institute, will each provide comments.

The news conference will take place in Hampton Hall at the Fisheries and Marine Institute today (Monday, May 17) at 11:30 a.m. During the news conference a 12-minute trailer of the video will be shown while a full-length version will be shown immediately following the event in Hampton Hall.
