Physicians Advised of Delay in Electronic Payments

As a result of an internal delay within the Office of the Comptroller General in processing fee-for-service payments to physicians for the current pay period, electronic payments that were scheduled to be made early morning today (Wednesday, October 20) did not occur on schedule.

Instead of these payments being deposited into bank accounts early this morning, the majority of the individuals who were affected will now receive their electronic payments later today, while a small number of individuals can expect to receive theirs by no later than shortly after midnight tonight.

The Department of Finance has informed physicians with a message distributed by the Newfoundland and Labrador Medical Association to its membership.

"Every effort is being made to have these electronic payments made as soon as possible today," said the Honourable Tom Marshall, Minister of Finance and President of Treasury Board. "The Department of Finance regrets this delay and any confusion or inconvenience it may have caused."

The delay impacts approximately 800 physicians who receive some type of fee-for-service payment via direct electronic deposit to their bank accounts. Future pay periods are in no way impacted. No delays occurred in the processing and distribution of physical cheques.

The Office of the Comptroller General has reviewed its processes and every effort will be made to ensure that no payment delays like this occur again in the future.
