The Honourable John Crosbie, Lieutenant Governor of
Newfoundland and Labrador, and Her Honour Jane Furneaux Crosbie, invite
the public to visit Government House in St. John's this summer.
Government House is the official and permanent residence of the
Lieutenant Governor, located within the heart of historic St. John's.
While it is available to the public year round, Their Honours extend a
special invitation to the public to visit Government House and its
magnificent grounds this summer.
Visit the Grounds
Government House grounds are open to the public year
round. In the summer, stroll through the walkways, enjoy the majestic
trees and beautiful flower beds, and view trees that have been planted
by members of the Royal Family throughout the years.
Grounds opening hours: Monday to Sunday, 8:00 a.m. to
8:00 p.m.
Tour the Residence
Visitors are welcome to sign the visitor's book in the
main entrance. Guided tours of the main floor where official functions
are held and awards are presented, are available by appointment from
Monday to Friday. Telephone 709-729-4494 to request a tour. Advance
booking is necessary.
Visit the RNC Mounted Unit
The stables at Government House are home to the Royal
Newfoundland Constabulary Mounted Unit. The unit consists of four
Percheron horses and RNC officers. As this is an active policing unit,
advance reservations are necessary. Telephone 729-0447 to make an
appointment to view these magnificent horses.
Wedding Pictures in the Garden
Government House grounds are available for wedding
photos, Monday to Friday from 4:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., and Saturday and
Sunday from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., by appointment only. To request a
reservation, please call 709-729-4494 during regular business hours.
Visit the Annual Garden Party, July 21, 3:00 p.m. —
5:00 p.m.
One of the longstanding traditions of Government House
is the Annual Garden Party. This event provides an opportunity for the
public to meet Their Honours, enjoy Government House grounds and mingle
with friends. This year's Garden Party will feature pageantry and
musical performances by the CLB Band, the Signal Hill Tattoo and the
Celtic Fiddlers. Refreshments will be served by the Girl Guides.
The 2010 Annual Garden Party is being held on
Wednesday, July 21, from 3:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m.
