Premier Welcomes The Princess Royal to Newfoundland and Labrador

The Honourable Danny Williams, Premier of Newfoundland and Labrador, is pleased to welcome Her Royal Highness, Anne, The Princess Royal, to Newfoundland and Labrador. Premier Williams will participate in two events during her visit including the Consecration and Presentation of Colours to the Royal Newfoundland Regiment and a wreath-laying ceremony.

"I am delighted to welcome Her Royal Highness, The Princess Royal, to Newfoundland and Labrador," said Premier Williams. "During her visit she will be presenting new colours to the Royal Newfoundland Regiment, of which she is the Colonel-in-Chief. I am very pleased to be participating in this momentous and historic event. We all wish Her Royal Highness a memorable and enjoyable stay in our province."

The Consecration and Presentation of Regimental Colours will take place on Saturday, April 24, at 2:30 p.m. at Mile One Centre. Premier Williams will also participate in a wreath-laying ceremony at 10:30 a.m. on Sunday, April 25. The wreath-laying ceremony will take place at the Caribou Memorial and Plaques at Bowring Park, St. John's.

"I was deeply honoured to participate with Her Royal Highness, The Princess Royal, during the 90th anniversary ceremonies of the Battle of the Somme at Beaumont-Hamel in 2006," said Premier Williams. "I look forward to meeting her again and welcoming Her Royal Highness to our beautiful province. During her visit, Her Royal Highness will have the opportunity to meet with contemporary Newfoundland and Labrador veterans who have served Canada valiantly in places like Bosnia and Afghanistan. We are all tremendously proud of the women and men from this province who have served as well as current members of the Canadian Armed Forces."

During the Royal visit, the Royal Newfoundland Regiment will celebrate its 215th anniversary. The Royal Newfoundland Regiment is renowned for its efforts in France, at Beaumont-Hamel, and in Gallipoli during World War One.
