Minister Joins Communities to Celebrate Volunteer Week

Volunteers across Newfoundland and Labrador will be in the spotlight during National Volunteer Week, which will be celebrated this year April 18-24. The Honourable Dave Denine, Minister Responsible for the Volunteer and Non-Profit Sector, will attend recognition events across the province to thank volunteers for their hard work and dedication to their communities.

This year's theme, Volunteers Connect Communities, speaks to the voluntary and non-profit sectors ability to come together to make a difference in their communities and the positive impact they have on the people of Newfoundland and Labrador. There are 197,000 volunteers provincially who contribute 35 million hours of valuable unpaid time to their communities every year. Through their commitment and tireless efforts, volunteers and non-profit organizations make this province strong and vibrant.

"Volunteers and non-profit organizations are vital to ensuring our communities are dynamic, caring, nurturing and welcoming," said Minister Denine. "The impact volunteers have on our province is outstanding and their role in our sustainability and prosperity is essential. I ask Newfoundlanders and Labradorians to join me in showing our appreciation for volunteers and I encourage people to connect with their communities and volunteer."
