Premier, Minister to Join in JUNO Fever
The Honourable Danny Williams, Premier of Newfoundland
and Labrador, and the Honourable Terry French, Minister of Tourism,
Culture and Recreation, will take part in JUNO Awards-related events
this weekend.
Minister French will address the JUNO Welcome
Reception this evening (Friday, April 16) at The Rooms in St. John's.
The event begins at 6:00 p.m.
Premier Williams will address attendees at the JUNO
Gala Dinner and Awards Ceremony tomorrow (Saturday, April 17) where more
than 30 JUNO Awards will be presented. The gala takes place at the St.
John's Convention Centre, beginning at 6:00 p.m.
The Government of Newfoundland and Labrador has
invested $1.025 million in the 2010 JUNO Awards, including $750,000 to
host, $200,000 to establish and support the JUNO Host Committee, and
$75,000 to assist with JUNOs on George, an unprecedented street party
that will be featured during the Sunday, April 18, television broadcast
of the 2010 JUNO Awards. More than 4,000 music fans are expected to make
their way to George Street in St. John's to participate in this event,
hosted by the Canadian Association of Recording Arts and Sciences (CARAS).
