Environmental Assessment Bulletin
The Honourable Charlene Johnson, Minister of Environment and
Conservation, has announced the following events relative to Part 10
Environmental Assessment of the Environmental Protection Act.
UNDERTAKINGS REGISTERED:
Musgrave Harbour Quarry Extension (Reg. 1543)
Proponent: D & M Services Ltd.
D & M Services Ltd. proposes to develop a two hectare extension to
their existing quarry located on Route 330 approximately eight
kilometres south of Musgrave Harbour. This extension is required because
suitable quarry material at the existing quarry is nearly exhausted. The
development and operation of the quarry extension is scheduled to begin
in the spring of 2011. Two pieces of heavy equipment are expected to
operate in the quarry during operation, employing one to two equipment
operators.
The undertaking was registered on November 10, 2010; the deadline
for public comments is December 15, 2010; and the minister's decision is
due by December 25, 2010.
Fischell's Brook Forage Production (Resubmission) (Reg. 1542)
Proponent: New World Dairy Inc.
The proposed undertaking consists of the clearing of approximately 85
hectares of land to increase local forage production for New World Dairy
located at St. David's on the west coast of Newfoundland. Increasing
local forage production will eliminate the need to import forage from
outside the province. The site is located approximately six kilometres
northeast of the community of Robinsons, and lies north of Fischell's
Brook, and east of the abandoned CN rail-bed. The project is scheduled
to commence on or before January 4, 2011.
The undertaking was registered on November 9, 2010; the deadline for
public comments is December 15, 2010; and the minister's decision is due
by December 24, 2010.
