Environmental Assessment Bulletin

The Honourable Charlene Johnson, Minister of Environment and Conservation, has announced the following event relative to Part 10 Environmental Assessment of the Environmental Protection Act.

UNDERTAKING REGISTERED:

Baie Verte Junction Rock and Gravel Quarry                                                         (Reg. 1532)
Proponent: Barker's Construction Ltd.

The proponent intends to operate a rock and gravel quarry approximately 600 metres north of the intersection of the Trans Canada Highway and Route 410 (Baie Verte Junction). The operation will be approximately 3.0 hectares in size and is located adjacent to an existing quarry. Aggregate material will be excavated and crushed on site, and access to the site will be via an existing 0.5 kilometre road off Route 410. The quarry will be used to supply aggregate material for the proponent's concrete operations in Baie Verte and will be used on the Baie Verte Peninsula and in the Green Bay area. The quarry is proposed to operate between April and November and operations will start upon receipt of approval.

The undertaking was registered on September 29, 2010; the deadline for public comments is October 14, 2010; and the minister's decision is due by November 12, 2010.
