Environmental Assessment Bulletin

The Honourable Charlene Johnson, Minister of Environment and Conservation, has announced the following events relative to Part 10 Environmental Assessment of the Environmental Protection Act.

UNDERTAKINGS RELEASED:

Springdale Residential Subdivision - Riverwood Landing                                           (Reg. 1520)
Proponent: 58820 Newfoundland and Labrador Inc.

The proponent shall prepare in consultation with the Wildlife Division a Riparian Buffer Zone Plan for approval by the Minister of Environment and Conservation. As a component of this approved Riparian Buffer Zone Plan, a minimum 50 metre wide undisturbed buffer between the Undertaking and the Indian River and between the Undertaking and the adjacent Eastern Habitat Joint Venture Management Unit must be located by a licensed surveyor and de-marked on the ground for appropriate inspection.

The proponent shall submit to the Minister of Environment and Conservation a hydrogeology study to assess water quality and quantity for the proposed undertaking.

The proponent must obtain written final approval from the Town of Springdale.

Prior to the start of construction, the proponent must develop monitoring survey protocols in consultations with the Wildlife Division and Canadian Wildlife Service for waterfowl, other bird species, and for any species at risk that might be within the cranberry farm site area. The annual results of these monitoring surveys will be provided to, and discussed with the Wildlife Division and Canadian Wildlife Service. In addition, mitigation measures should be developed to reduce human-waterfowl interactions during construction and operation of the cranberry farm.

A 50 metre undisturbed buffer must be maintained between the project area and the river which is a considered to be a tributary of the Great Rattling Brook, a scheduled salmon river.
