Johnson, Minister of Environment and Conservation, has announced the
following events relative to Part 10 Environmental Assessment of the
Environmental Protection Act.
UNDERTAKING REGISTERED:
Debottlenecking Project — North Atlantic
Refining Limited
(Reg. 1528)
Proponent: North Atlantic Refining Limited
The proponent intends to upgrade of its
refinery facility in Come By Chance, through a process known as a
debottlenecking, to remove process constraints and permit improved
production and efficiency. The project will improve the economics and
sustainability of the refinery and result in a reduction in greenhouse
gas and criteria air contaminant emissions. Many existing pumps, heat
exchangers, compressors and process vessels will be modified or
replaced. A new crude blending tank will also be constructed. The
project is to be carried out in phases beginning in the fall of 2010 and
ending in the winter of 2011.
The undertaking was registered on August
25, 2010; the deadline for public comments is September 30, 2010; and
the minister's decision is due by October 8, 2010.
Golden Promise Property (near Badger) Bulk
Sample

Proponent: Crosshair Exploration & Mining Corporation
The proponent proposes to undertake a
trenching and bulk sampling program on the Golden Promise Property
located approximately 11 kilometres southwest of Badger, on the north
side of the Buchans Highway, in central Newfoundland. The bulk sample
will consist of 2,500 tonnes of rock taken from a trench 200 metres long
by 10 metres wide. The rock sample will be stockpiled and then trucked
to an operating mill near Baie Verte for testing. Stripping and removal
of the overburden is anticipated to occur in mid to late October. The
total bulk sampling operation will take approximately six to eight weeks
to complete and is estimated to be finished by December 2010.
The undertaking was registered on August 26,
2010; public comments are due by September 30, 2010; and, the minister's
decision is due by October 10, 2010.
