Environmental Assessment Bulletin
The Honourable Charlene Johnson, Minister of
Environment and Conservation, has announced the following events
relative to Part 10 Environmental Assessment of the Environmental
Protection Act.
UNDERTAKING REGISTERED:
Fischell's Brook Forage Production
(Reg.
1527)
Proponent:
New World Dairy Inc.
The proposal is to develop approximately 85
hectares of suitable land for forage production. The site is located six
kilometres northeast of the community of Robinsons and bounded by Barry
Brook to the north and Fischell's Brook to the south. Access is to be
gained via an existing road leading from the Trans Canada Highway.
Development of this proposal will require land clearing for crop
production intended for consumption by livestock. Land development is
proposed to begin September 2010.
The undertaking was registered on August 23,
2010; public comments are due by September 27, 2010; and the minister's
decision is due by October 7, 2010.

This undertaking was released from
environmental assessment subject to the following conditions:
- Prior to the start of construction, the proponent
must develop monitoring survey protocols in consultation with the
Wildlife Division, Department of Environment and Conservation, for
waterfowl, other bird species, and for any species at risk that
might be within the cranberry farm site area or potentially be
attracted to the cranberry site; and
- A 30 metre undisturbed buffer must be maintained
between the project area and Trout Brook.
First Pond Bottom Brook Gravel Quarry (Reg.
1517)
Proponent: Johnson's
Construction Ltd.
This undertaking was released from
environmental assessment subject to the following condition:

Prior to the commencement of operations at this site Johnson's
Construction Ltd. must consult with Newfoundland and Labrador Hydro
regarding the transmission line that crosses the quarry area, to
ensure that operations are conducted in a safe manner.
