Recreational Cottage Lots Available
at Big Cook's Pond, Western Newfoundland
People in the province will have an opportunity to obtain a lot as a
result of 25 Crown land remote recreational cottage lots available
through an upcoming public draw. Lots available at Big Cook's Pond in
Western Newfoundland will be issued as a Licence to Occupy with a five
year term and a current annual rental of $100. The licence will also be
subject to renewal every five years.
"We are pleased we can make Crown land available for recreational
cottage lots through our public draw process," said the Honourable
Charlene Johnson, Minister of Environment and Conservation. "Our
provincial Crown land is a valuable resource, and we are committed to
managing this resource wisely. Efforts like this are important in terms
of its effective management, while at the same time meeting the
recreational needs of citizens in a fair and responsible manner."
Anyone interested in obtaining a lot must submit an application to
the Western Regional Lands Office. Applications must be received no
later than 4:00 p.m. Thursday, August 26. Applications received after
that deadline will not be eligible. Application forms are available
online at
www.gov.nl.ca/env/ or at the Lands Office at the
following address:

An application fee of $113 is required and will be credited towards
the cost of the lot for successful applications. Unsuccessful applicants
will receive a refund. The public draw will be held at 7:00 p.m. on
Wednesday, September 1, 2010 at the Western Regional Lands Office to
determine applicant selection order for the lots through a random draw
process. Applicants may attend this meeting, but attendance is not
required. Following the meeting for the random draw, applicants will be
contacted by certified mail advising them of the ranking of their
application. The selection of lots will take place at a subsequent
public meeting on a date to be announced. Attendance by applicants or
their proxy will be required at this meeting.
Applicants are advised to inspect lots prior to the selection
meeting. Any lots remaining after the lot selection meeting will be
available on a first come, first served basis on the next business day.
