Environmental Assessment Bulletin
The Honourable Charlene Johnson, Minister of Environment and
Conservation, has announced the following events relative to Part 10
Environmental Assessment of the Environmental Protection Act.
UNDERTAKING REGISTERED:
Plum Point St. Genevieve Day Use Park and Hiking
Trails (Reg 1523)
Proponent: St. Barbe Development Association
The project entails the construction and operation of two day use park
sites, scenic lookouts and approximately six kilometres of
walking/hiking trails with rest stops, adjacent to the St. Genevieve
River and Route 430 near the community of Plum Point on the Northern
Peninsula. The day use park sites and lookouts will have picnic tables,
fire pits and interpretive displays. The walking trails will be a
combination of natural walking surface and boardwalks approximately one
metre in width. Construction is scheduled to start in early September
2010.
The project was registered on July 14, 2010; public comments are due by
August 20, 2010; the minister's decision is due on August 28, 2010.

This undertaking was released from environmental assessment subject
to the following condition:
The proponent must develop a riparian buffer zone plan in
consultation with the Wildlife Division. The buffer zone plan
shall be submitted to the Wildlife Division for review prior to
commencing any development activities.
Harry's River Cranberry Farm (Reg. 1492)
Proponent: Harry's River Cranberry Farm Ltd.
This undertaking was released from environmental assessment subject
to the following conditions:
Prior to the start of construction, monitoring survey
protocols must be developed in consultation with the
Wildlife Division for waterfowl, other bird species, and for
any species at risk that might be within the cranberry farm
site area. The annual results of these monitoring surveys
will be provided to, and discussed with the Wildlife
Division and Canadian Wildlife Service. Mitigation measures
should be developed to reduce human-waterfowl interactions
during the construction and operation of the farm.
A vegetated, undisturbed buffer, 150 metres in width,
must be maintained between the high water mark of Harry's
River and any development related to the undertaking.
