Environmental Assessment Bulletin
The Honourable Charlene Johnson, Minister
of Environment and Conservation, has announced the following events
relative to Part 10 Environmental Assessment of the Environmental
Protection Act.
UNDERTAKINGS REGISTERED:
Eddies Cove Area ATV Trail
(Reg. 1507)
Proponent: Aster Caines
The proponent proposes to upgrade a
5.7kilometre ATV trail to access a cabin. The trail is located off the
main highway, east of Eddies Cove, Northern Peninsula. Parking area will
be off the main highway. Construction is tentatively scheduled to begin
this summer/fall.
The undertaking was registered on June 2,
2010; the deadline for public comments is July 9 2010; and the
minister's decision is due by July 17, 2010.
Northern Labrador 5 Year Operating Plan -
Forest Management District 23 (2008-2012)
Proponent: Newfoundland and Labrador Forest Service (Reg. 1506)
The proposal involves a five year forest
operating plan for District 23 that outlines timber harvest plans,
silviculture treatments and primary road locations. District 23 is
situated on the north coast of Labrador. The projected harvest is
approximately 60,000 cubic metres of softwood timber and 20 kilometres
of primary forest access roads are proposed for construction.
The undertaking was registered on May 27, 2010; the deadline for public
comments is July 7, 2010; and the minister's decision is due by July 11,
2010.

Harry's River Cranberry Farm
(Reg.1492)
Proponent: Harry's River Cranberry Farm Ltd.
The proponent of undertaking # 1492 (Harry's
River Cranberry Farm) has forwarded supplementary information, to be
considered as an amendment to the original registration. An additional
area of approximately 20 hectares to the east of the original
undertaking is required for a water reservoir and irrigation ditching as
well possible future cranberry beds. The decision date for this project
has been extended to allow for review of this supplementary information.
The undertaking was registered on April 30, 2010; public comments are
now due by June 21, 2010; and the minister's decision is due by June 28,
2010.

This undertaking was released from
environmental assessment subject to the following conditions:
- A 100 metre undisturbed vegetative
buffer must be maintained between the proposed site and all water
bodies in the area;
- A reclamation plan must be submitted
to the Water Resources Management Division, Department of
Environment and Conservation for approval prior to the commencement
of work;
- A biodiversity survey of the
proposed area must be completed and submitted to the Wildlife
Division, Department of Environment and Conservation prior to the
commencement of work;
- A detailed report on the operation
of the peat harvesting facility must be provided to the Water
Resources Management Division, Department of Environment and
Conservation on an annual basis.
Baie Verte, Ming Copper-Gold and Nugget
Pond Mill (Reg. 1487)
Proponent: Rambler Metals and Mining Canada Limited
This undertaking was released from
environmental assessment subject to the following conditions:
- A Women's Employment Plan must be
submitted and approved by the Minister of Natural Resources prior to
the commencement of construction.
- An Environmental Protection Plan (EPP)
must be submitted and approved by the Minister of Environment and
Conservation prior to the commencement of construction.
- Rambler Metals and Mining must
provide additional information regarding anticipated employment
during the construction and operations phases of the project. This
information must be provided to the Department of Human Resources,
Labour and Employment prior to construction.
