The Honourable Charlene Johnson, Minister
of Environment and Conservation, has announced the following events
relative to Part 10 Environmental Assessment of the Environmental
Protection Act.
UNDERTAKING REGISTERED:
Crown District 19A Five-Year Forest
Management Operating Plan (Amendment)
Proponent: Department of Natural Resources (Reg. 1482)
The proposal is for an amendment to the
existing Crown Five Year Operating Plan for Forest Management District
19A (Central Labrador) to manually plant a 600 hectare burn area located
near Muskrat Falls, just south of the Trans Labrador Highway. The
proposed activity will consist of the manual planting of
greenhouse-reared, containerized black and white spruce seedlings, and
should take approximately four weeks per year to complete, providing
approximately 10 seasonal jobs each year.
The undertaking was registered on March
17, 2010; the deadline for public comments is April 23, 2010; and the
minister's decision is due by May 1, 2010.
Brown�s Arm Farm Access
Proponent: Marc Porter (Reg. 1483)
The proposal is a one kilometre road
located four kilometres from Brown�s Arm Road (Route 341) and 15
kilometres from Lewisporte. The location is dry and cutover and will
require limited vegetation removal. Construction will require two days
and will commence pending approval.
The undertaking was registered on March
17, 2010; the deadline for public comments is April 23, 2010; and the
minister's decision is due by May 1, 2010.
Botwood Airstrip Sand Quarry
Proponent: Penney Paving Ltd. (Reg. 1484)
The proponent proposes to develop a sand
pit approximately 10 kilometres southeast of the Town of Botwood, off
Route 350. The proposed pit site will cover a total area of
approximately four hectares. Access to the site will be by an existing
gravel road approximately one kilometre long which will be upgraded and
extended to the northwest to access the quarry lease. Operations will
include the excavation and loading of sand and gravel materials at the
working face of the pit, crushing and screening processing, and
transportation of sand materials for use offsite.
The undertaking was registered on March
17, 2010; public comments are due by April 23, 2010; and, the minister�s
decision is due by May 1, 2010.
