The Honourable Charlene
Johnson, Minister of Environment and Conservation, has
announced the following events relative to Part 10
Environmental Assessment of the
Environmental Protection Act.
UNDERTAKING RELEASED:
Grand Falls – Windsor
Gravel/Sand Quarry
Newhook's Cranberry Farm Inc. (Reg. 1451)
This undertaking was
released from environmental assessment subject to the
following
conditions:
- No cutting will be
permitted in the provincial forestry white spruce
plantation portion of the proposed quarry.
- A minimum 50 metre
treed buffer must be maintained between Peter's
River and any site clearing to minimize potential
negative impacts on air and water quality as well as
the entire riparian ecosystem from the construction
and operation of the quarry.
- A minimum 15 metre
undisturbed vegetated buffer is to remain along any
stream within the proposed quarry boundary.
ENVIRONMENTAL PREVIEW
REPORT SUBMITTED:
Parsons Pond Oil
Exploration & Access Road
Proponent: Nalcor Energy Ltd. (Reg. 1411)
The proponent has
submitted an Environmental Preview Report (EPR) for the
proposed project as required by the minister on July 15,
2009. The EPR was required to address issues and
concerns brought forward by agency comments and public
submissions during the review of the undertaking.
Guidelines for the preparation of the EPR were issued on
August 21, 2009. Public comments regarding the EPR are
welcome and must be received no later than February 22,
2010. The document can be viewed on the website
