Queen Elizabeth High in Foxtrap is getting
significant exterior upgrades with an investment of $400,000 from the
Provincial Government.
"Throughout Newfoundland and Labrador, we are
undertaking a school rehabilitation program the likes of which we've
never seen," said the Honourable Darin King, Minister of Education.
"Projects large and small throughout the province are improving the
quality of our schools, and ensuring our students, teachers and staff
are spending their days in clean, secure learning environments."
The exterior upgrades at Queen Elizabeth High
will include brick repairs, sealant replacement, site draining
improvements and window repairs.
Minister King noted two other schools in the
Conception Bay South area have also recently received infrastructure
upgrades. St. Edwards Elementary in Kelligrews had a $1.9 million
extension completed including additional classrooms, a challenging needs
suite, and an extensive technology upgrade to allow for interactive
white boards and computer access throughout the school. In addition,
$75,000 has been invested in water and sewer infrastructure at St.
George's Elementary in Manuels.
"I am extremely pleased to see our investments
make a real difference in the day-to-day lives of students in our area
schools," said the Honourable Terry French, Minister of Tourism, Culture
and Recreation, and MHA for Conception Bay South. "When infrastructure
is improved and technology is upgraded, we are providing an excellent
teaching and learning environment for staff and students."
Budget 2010: For Our Children and Our
Future provided $113.5 million for K-12 infrastructure.
